Within a space of two months, Glenn Beck has become one of the most powerful media voices. CNN's loss was Fox News gain with 2.3 million viewers tuning in every weeknight.

The only other political commentators that have more viewers are Bill O'Reilly or Sean Hannity, also on Fox.  What is most surprising is that Beck is on at 5 p.m., traditionally a slow shift for cable political news.

His audience is made of some of the 62 million Americans who did not vote for Barack Obama. Disaffected and aggrieved, they have found a spokesman who speaks their language.

While Beck's competitors make fun of him, especially on MSNBC, his audience appears to appreciate his mix of moral lessons, outrage and an apocalyptic view of the future. He compares himself to Howard Beale, in the film "Network" who declared on the air "I am mad as hell."

Besides O'Reilly and Hannity, who lost viewers during the Democratic primary season, Fox in general is attracting a huge audience, rated at 1.2 million viewers at any given time, about twice as many as CNN or MSNBC.

One of Beck's most popular segments is title "Constitution Under Attack" and equally popular are his tirades against politicians. At times, he dissolves into tears of emotional when something touches his heart.

He tells his audience

The truth is--that you are the defender of liberty.  It's not the government. It's not the army or anybody else. It's you.  This is your country.

On March 12, 2009, Beck introduced the  9/12 Democray Project, an interactive that reclaims the values and principals that were evident the day after Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.  He asks

What happened to the country that loved the underdog and stood up for the little guy?

Meanwhile, Beck continues to add viewers who are looking for someone who speaks their language and share the same values with him.
