Starr Weems de Graffenried

In ancient times, wells played a vital role in community life. Many a Bible story uses a well as the central point of interaction. These well crafts were meant to be used alongside the camel activity for Hayyei-Sarah, but they can also be used for countless other stories. Choose the activities that best fit your needs. See the photo album at the bottom of the page for examples and instructions.

  • Build a well from butter mints using royal icing as mortar. For simpler but less sturdy edible glue, melt 1/4 stick of butter in a sauce pan and add 1/2 to one cup of sugar to the butter and heat. Another option is to beat 1 egg white until fluffy and add 1 teaspoon of cream of tartar to the mix. Keep beating the mixture and slowly mix in around 1 1/2 cups of powdered sugar to make a thick, sturdy glue.
  • Cut off a segment of a cardboard roll and draw bricks on the side. If desired, you can also put a small jar full of water inside of it.
  • Make a well out of craft sticks.
  • Build a well from sugar cubes around a small container of water.
  • Build a well out of blocks and act out the story.
  • Print a well coloring page to draw on or to use as a template for a felt or paper craft.
