Summit Entertainment has yet to reveal official information about filming plans for the movie adaptation of Breaking Dawn, the fourth and final novel in Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Saga. But franchise star Robert Pattinson is slowly dropping hints about plans for the movie -- and his latest nuggett of information includes thoughts about production returning to Portland.
In a recent interview with MTV, Pattinson said, "I've heard that we're going to shoot it [Breaking Dawn] in Portland."
The first movie, "Twilight," was filmed in and around Portland in early 2008. But filmmakers moved production to Vancouver, B.C. for the second and third movies in the series because of cheaper costs. ("The Twilight Saga: New Moon" is due out Nov. 20th; "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" is due out in June 2010.)
When filming wrapped last month on the third movie, "Eclipse," crews broke down the set pieces and closed up shop -- furthering rumors that production may be returning to the Rose City. There's also the added incentives, passed by the Oregon state legislature earlier this year -- which gives more benefits to filmmakers who shoot in Oregon. Perhaps the extra perks will lure filmmakers back to Portland for "Breaking Dawn"?
A shooting schedule has not been released yet for "Breaking Dawn," but Pattinson has suggested in other recent interviews that it will take place sometime next year.He told Collider and FearNet, "I think the tentative time for 'Breaking Dawn' is fall next year. They may well change that."
Meanwhile, speculation about who will direct a Breaking Dawn movie continues. In his MTV interview, Pattinson suggested Portland's own Gus van Sant:
"He shoots everything in Portland," reasoned the 23-year-old British heartthrob. "He's good at making it look beautiful."
Regarding the complicated (and at times violent) plot of Breaking Dawn, Pattinson added:
"It's all about teenage love and obsessions [...] I think Gus Van Sant would be great."
Reelz Channel recently featured the debate on its series "Twilight Spotlight," asking fansites for their input:
