Everybody needs a break from time to time from our daily lives filled with the stress of the economy, politics and an onslaught of negative news. As a result and as an effort to rebuild brand loyalty, Hasbro has teamed up with Google maps to launch the worlds largest online monopoly game.
Monopoly City Streets will incorporate google map technology to allow you to compete against your friends and a worldwide community in order to become the richest property owner in the world. Although the companies have released limited information about the game, what little has leaked out is creating high expectations.
In the global online version, you will start with a $3 million bankroll and the traditional playing board has been replaced with google maps. In other words, skyscrapers in New York to a hotel in Fiji will be yours for the grabbing. Moreover, you won't be limited to purchasing pre-defined structures, when you buy property you will have the opportunity to build skyscrapers, homes, castles or even stadiums, which will generate rent on a daily basis. In addition, Chance cards will enable you to set hazards on your friends streets as you compete to see who can outlast each other.
Hasbro has attempted an online version in the past, but with the addition of google maps developers hope to redefine online gaming and recapture market share and brand recognition among an explosion of social networking games. In addition the game's launch will coincide with the release of a new Monopoly City Edition game.
Monopoly City Streets is scheduled to last for only four months and the company has remained relatively hush, hush on additional details. Although it is unknown if any type of awards or prizes will be involved, it would certainly be a bold marketing move to offer such rewards for those successful capitalists who build a personal empire. But be warned, the early bird gets the worm in this game, as properties may only be purchased once. As a result, the White House, rumoured to cost $2 million, will be purchased early on. The good news is that you have the rest of world to gobble up.
To find out more the developers have two official sites. The Monopoly City Streets Game Site and Monopoly City Streets blog.
