Actor Edward Norton took to the road this morning for the annual New York City Marathon with one of many goals in mind - His promise to beat former VP candidate Sarah Palin's marathon time.
The two-time Oscar nominee said in an interview with MTV this week that Palin ran her 26-plus marathon in under four hours and he was determined to "destroy that time".
The 40-year-old Fight Club star told MTV News, "I'm gonna beat Sarah Palin like a rug!"
The actor streamed through his race consistently putting him on track to beat Palin in under four hours.
Norton has been tweeting on his page has helped to raise over $750,000 for his run as a part of the Maasai Marathon group. The group, which helps to raise money for Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust, also assists with education and health services in southern Kenya.
According to MTV News, among Norton's fellow marathon participants is Samson Parashina, a Maasai who met Norton when the actor came to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Puma sponsored the team and offered up tee-shirts that Norton posted on his Twitter page pre-race (shown below).
"He's a good runner," Parashina said of Norton. "We've been running over the lava rocks in Kenya — the terrain is very uneven — and he was going very well."
Training on the rocks rocks will provide an advantage to Norton once he hits the relatively smoother streets of the Big Apple. MTV had to ask, though - Is training for a marathon anything like training for movies?
"No," Norton says. "This is definitely one of the hardest things I think we've all ever done."
Norton, who also ran alongside celebrities like ER doctor Anthony Edwards and singer Alanis Morissette, finished the marathon in 3:48:01.
Other celebrity marathoners include Tom Cruise's lovely lady Katie Holmes (New York City Marathon 2007), famed chef Gordon Ramsay (London Marathon 2009), Ryan Reynolds, hubby to actress Scarlett Johansson (New York City Marathon 2008) and Will Ferrell (Boston Marathon 2003).
