Meet Carla Thorpe a business owner in the metropolitan area who has turned her passion for helping others into a successful business.


Interview with Carla Thorpe


PW: What is the name of your business?

CT: Make It Happen Consulting

PW: What does the business do?

CT: Business Consulting, Organization, Event Planning and Wedding Planning

PW: When did you start the business?

CT:  January 2007
 
PW: What did it take to get the business started?

CT:  It just took me to be focused so that the company could get started the right way.

PW: How long did it take to make profits and why?

CT:  I started making profits the moment the business was registered with the state of Virginia

PW: Why did you choose to start your own business? 

CT: I enjoy helping others reach their goals.  My company allows me to help people move forward in their passion. 

PW: What are your responsibilities?

CT: As the owner and key consultant it is my duty to provide knowledge, customer service and opportunity to my clients.

PW: What are some of the problem/risks with running your business?

CT:  The biggest issue at times is not enough time in the day for all I want to do.  I have big goals for the company/clients but things get pushed aside because I am still working solo.

PW: What are some benefits of owning your own business and running it?

CT:  The benefits of having a business is the joy of success, taxes and knowing that I am helping others.

PW: Do you enjoy your job and why?

CT:  Of course I enjoy my job it is what I have always wanted to do in life.  Even as a little girl I helped my grandmother with her daycare.  I have a heart to serve and with my company I am able to do just that.

PW: Are there certain qualities you are looking in an employee?

CT: Someone that is passionate about serving and helping people reach their goals.

PW: If someone wanted to own a business like yours what are some recommendations for the person?

CT: Know good customer service and understand that everyone cannot be a client.  In order to serve a client needs to know what they want and be ready to move forward.
