Go ahead and order the guacamole or dice an avocado into your next salad.

Holistic Health Counselor, Clinical Nutritionist and Founder of The Whole Journey, Christa Orecchio,  says that since the creamy green fruit is abundant in Vitamin E, essential oils and B vitamins, it nourishes the skin inside and out. “It also acts as an anti-inflammatory to soothe irritated or red, blotchy skin. Eat it as a snack or use it as a facial mask in the evening.”

It made Popeye’s biceps bulge and even put him in an existential frame of mind (“I yam what I yam”).

Spinach, apparently, also helps in beautifying the dermis.

Orecchio says “ Spinach is high in iron which is crucial for the formation of hemoglobin, which carries oxygen to blood cells, giving us a healthy glow.”

Dr. Peggy Fuller with Esthetics Center for Dermatology in Charlotte, N.C. also champions spinach. “The ultimate super food for happy skin, it has omega 3 fatty acids, beta carotene, B vitamins, polyphenols, and alpha lipoic acid. It helps to reduce wrinkles and the chemical levels that come with the aging process; increases cell turnover and protects against environmental damage.”

The good doctor also likes broccoli. “It’s a power food that contains fiber, folate, calcium, vitamin c, beta carotene, lutein and vitamin K increasing cell turnover of the skin and protects against environmental damage.

This fuzzy fruit crams a lot of power in a small container. “Kiwis are packed with Vitamin C, an essential antioxidant essential to collagen production - kiwis are a great addition to any diet,” Orecchio explains.

Chicagohealers.com practitioner Dr. Jeana Stanley Gonzaga tells us to sip green tea: “It’s an anti-inflammatory that helps protect against ultra-violet light which ultimately reduces the risk of skin cancer.”
