Ben Franklin told us that nothing is certain but death and taxes but the sage also reminded us that a penny saved is a penny earned. April 15, tax day, is a solemn occasion so liven it up with some of these deals meant to lift your spirits as the government lifts your wallet:

To easy your tax woes, Prairie Grass Café (Northbrook) will be raffling off a dinner for two. The drawing is open to everyone who eats at the American Contemporary restaurant on April 15th. While you’re there, consider launching your meal will the "Tax Evasion" - North Shore Distillery Gin #6, with fresh-squeezed lime juice, soda and Angostura bitters or "The Write Off" which consists of Woodford Reserve Bourbon, sweet vermouth and Door County Cherry juice. Lighten the tax day blues at Smoke Daddy on Wednesday, April 15, when Miller products are only $2 and a basket of half-price smoked, barbeque wings cost $4, (normally $7.95 ). Get a jump on saving money with Le Colonial’s $1 Tax relief menu. Beginning Monday, April 13th through Friday, April 17th from 5 - 7 pm, Le Colonial serves a choice of five different appetizers for just $1 each. Among the options are Cha Gio, Vietnamese Spring rolls made with shrimp, pork and mushrooms; Chao Tom, grilled shrimp wrapped around sugar cane with angel hair noodles, mint, cilantro and lettuce with a peanut dipping sauce; and Crisp Beignets stuffed with Shrimp, Chicken and vegetables, served with Orange ginger dipping sauce.
