The 1977 trial documents of Phillip Garrido and Katie Callaway Hall have been obtained by CNN.  The trial documents are sexually graphic and are based on Phillip Garrido’s testimony in the case. 

In Hall’s case, Phillip Garrido tried to kidnap another girl the same day, but the girl fought him and ran away.  Then an hour later he kidnapped Katie Callaway Hall in her own car.  Hall tried to rush Garrido just to get it over with, but she said that he clearly had a plan and seemed very determined.  And he drove her to the min-warehouse where he raped her for over 5 ½ hours before she escaped, according to the court transcripts obtained by CNN.  For the full transcript details click here. 

Don Clark from CNN said that the law has changed in law enforcement over the past 20 years.  Clark said that 20 years ago it was solve the case and move on.  Since September 11, 2001 law enforcement has been more preventative.  Many law enforcement officials have access to records of other agencies, and 20 years ago they didn’t.    

Phillip Garrido was caught when he went to the Berkeley campus to get a permit for an event that he said would “change the world” according to the Sacramento Bee.  He had his (and Jaycee Dugard’s) two daughters with him, and Lisa Campbell and Allison Jacobs, two Berkeley police officers thought things looked a little suspicious and ran a background check on him before he returned the following day.
