5th Annual Cabela's KingKat Fishing Tournament is September 25 & 26, 2009 in New Madrid, Missouri.
Anglers can fish the Mississippi River from the Highway 60 bridge south of Cairo, Illinois down to the Highway 412 bridge south of Caruthersville, Missouri.
The New Madrid Chamber of Commerce will host a Community Fish Fry at the Mill Street Community Building from 5 to 7 pm Sept. 25. Catfish plates will be available for $8 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under and include fries, hushpuppies, coleslaw, drink and dessert. Late registration will be accepted for tournament fishing teams during the fish fry.
Sept. 26 activities begin at 5:30 am with a tournament fishing team meeting. Fishing begins at 6 am. Fishing teams stop time is 3 pm. All teams must be in line ready to weigh in by 4 pm.
Prizes include a guaranteed payback of $5,000 to the top 15 percent of the field with a minimum of three places. An Awards Banquet will be held Saturday night FREE to all participants.
“We are expecting a big turnout because this is the last stop to qualify for the big tournament in Alabama,” said Chamber of Commerce Executive director Christina McWater.
The team that has the most weight will qualify for the Cabela's KingKat Classic in Pickwick/Wilson, Alabama with a guaranteed purse of $60,000.
There will be an arts and crafts show, food vendors, live entertainment, plus kids games and activities.
