Moon is in Chitra tonight for the full moon of April 9. Chitra means beautiful. Chitra is ruled by Tvashtr, the architect of the gods. He is the one who fashioned the thunderbolt of Indra, the discus of Vishnu, the trident of Shiva and the cup from which the gods drink Som. His fingers have magic – he fashioned the heaven and earth, and gave shapes to all living forms.

The ruling planet of Chitra is the sharply focused Mars, the fiery energy of which is so essential to hammer a shape out of formless material.

Moon in Chitra tonight is full of the beauty of new things, shaped and forged by focussed artistry. And aspected fully by the sun in Revati.

The strength to fashion things of beauty from raw materials is
highlighted by this full moon. Detail of “The Forge of Vulcan”
by Diego Velazquez, 1630.

Revati is ruled by Pushan, the nourishing god. He is the god who knows the path between heaven and earth. Pushan, son of deliverance, watches over people as they walk the path. He knows the paths inside out and can, therefore, as the guardian of that knowledge, make hidden things visible and easier to find. Pushan bestows the gift of light.

The ruling planet of Revati is Mercury, the planet of intellect, discrimination, and pervasive consciousness that breaks down barriers. An evolved Mercury, with its ability to open up the channels of communication, coupled with Pushan, the guardian of the path, makes Revati one of the most spiritual of all constellations.

Sun in Revati is in its known and familiar ground of light and knowledge. Such a sun, when it aspects a moon full of artistry and purpose, can signify perhaps only one thing – the beginning of growth.
