Time to pull out the scissors and start clipping. September is National Coupon Month!

  • According to Wikipedia, "a coupon is a ticket or document that can be exchanged for a financial discount or rebate when purchasing a product."
  • Today, coupons can come from the newspaper, magazines, a store ad or a printer.
  • Coupon codes add discounts to an order placed on the Internet. Consumers benefit from the discount and manufacturers benefit from purchases of their product.

Asa Candler, one of the partners in the Coca Cola company decided to market his product to consumers by offering a piece of paper that granted the holder a complementary Coke.

This campaign began in 1887 and helped put his company on the map, making it possible for him to boast that Coca-Cola was served in all states by 1895.

  • The 2009 NCH report explains that more than 700 corporations offer coupons and the use of coupons on packaged goods generates 3 billion dollars in the U.S.
  • The National Coupon Month website offers the following statistics:

89% of consumers say they use coupons when planning their shopping list.

96% of coupon shoppers say they use coupons to choose the brands they buy.

95% of coupon shoppers say that coupons influence them to try new products.

Remember, in Tucson, Albertson's accepts coupons at face value, while Fry's, Basha's, and Safeway will double all coupons up to one dollar (limit of three like coupons per order).
