Welcoming back 'Rent' veterans, Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp, the show moves a little slowly at times. ... Or so this critic originally thought.
Actually, Adam and Anthony bring the characters to life with such magnificence, being born to play these roles, and occasionally overpower the show with such genuine honesty that it might be difficult for anyone to keep up. With a beautiful, tear-jerking performance by Justin Johnston, this show is one not to miss.
Lights, camera, and all other technical aspects that put the show into action are captivatingly brilliant. Two particular scenes bring to mind the phrase, "Shine the light on." And as the show continues to build fans everywhere it goes, no matter what country it visits, no matter who sees it, young or old, that phrase seems to fit perfectly.
Written by Jonathan Larson and directed by Michael Greif, the show is the 8th-longest-running show in Broadway history. About death and the consequent, desperate need to endure and embrace every moment of every day before it wilts away, this show will grab your soul and not let go.
If you run now, you'll still be able to buy tickets at the Aronoff Center box office. Go, run, and love every minute. All 525,600 of them. (Tickets are $22.50 to $64.50 depending on seat location.)
