Long Island native, Ed Burns, is going to write, direct and star in a new series called Bayside Boys, similar to Entourage, except it deals with the advertising industry and takes place in Queens and Manhattan. The series idea is currently being shopped around to cable networks.
Bayside Boys is about a group of friends, in their twenties, that grew up in Bayside, Queens. One of the group gets a job for a hot Manhattan ad agency. Ed Burns, at 41, is obviously too old to be one of the group. He plays their mentor.
Ed Burns originally worked only in movies. He created his own success by writing, directing, producting and financing his first movie, The Brothers McMullen, which he filmed mostly in the house he grew up in Valley Stream, Long Island.
Burns only recently began appearing on television in guest starring parts in Will and Grace and Entourage. His part in Entourage is ongoing as he plays the creator the the TV series that Johnny Drama is acting on. Could Ed Burns have gotten the idea for Bayside Boys from working on Entourage? How similar will the two series be? If HBO picks up Bayside Boys, what a great chance for Back-to-Back synergy.
