If you've lost your job or shuttered your business and are looking for something to do, where the demand for workers is high and attrition due to foreign competition is nil, try a career in heating, cooling, and refrigeration (HVACR).
The absolute best HVACR training/education program is featured right here in Michigan -- at Ferris State University (FSU) in Big Rapids (about a three-hour drive from Detroit). FSU offers both two- and four-year programs for students interested in careers as service techs, engineers, designers, salespeople, or even as business owners. These are the careers that are in demand now and won't be shipped overseas.
In fact, it is estimated that up to 20,000 HVACR service tech jobs go unfilled each year as the industry loses workers to retirement -- and replacements are few. Some say the HVACR trade gets little support from high school teachers and counselors and even less support from parents who still believe a service tech is a dirty job with low pay.
NOT!
HVACR service techs have to learn many skills including computer programming, building controls applications, electrical diagnostics, etc. You need a BRAIN to be an HVACR tech and FSU will show you how to have a rewarding career that can pay well over $100K/year. And if you can't commute to FSU, they have a distance learning program, too.
But don't take my word for it, click on this link to this YouTube video from a recent visit to FSU.
