In the last few months there's been a street cart explosion from the hipster corners of SF's Mission District.Tara Duggan wrote a piece for the Chronicle a month ago on the sudden proliferation of underground street carts that explores the permitting process that has so far kept carts out of SF. Perhaps it's the novelty, or the busted economy, or even a hankering for a street food-friendly city like New York, but the street carts have been joyously embraced by Missionites.
While most of these carts set up in the Mission--Dolores Park, in particular, seems a locus--some do deliver. The curious can get the menu for Mission Street Food online, but the most reliable way to find out what these carts are serving--and where--is to follow them on Twitter. Cart owners tweet their locale, their flavors, and will let you know when they've run out and what schedule they plan to keep.
At present, this is a roll call of SF street carts who use Twitter. There are other roving dessert vendors who don't seem to have an organized presence yet. I've seen a Hawaiian shaved ice vendor and roving cupcake-sellers. If I've missed anyone, be sure to leave the contact information in a comment and I will edit.
See you on the streets!
