Combining elements of thrash, hard rock, grunge and even some prog, Empyrean are, little by little, making their mark on the fledgling Orlando metal scene. Whether it’s the piercing screams of frontman Adam DeLancett, the groovy, riff-laden guitar work of guitarists Mike DeLancett and Ian Lachowicz, or the dynamic rhythm section made up of bassist Victor Randle and drummer Drew Borne, Empyrean comes at the listener from all directions, pounding heavy, noisy, and sometimes slightly off-kilter (yet simultaneously and impressively melodic) metal into the heads of anyone within earshot.
Though the band started out in 2002 as a joint effort between the brothers DeLancett, it was in 2005 that Empyrean solidified their lineup and self-released an eponymous EP in 2006. The band has continued to play shows rather consistently around central Florida in the meantime, and is gearing up for the release of a new CD entitled Resurrection Engine with a release show on July 24 at BackBooth in the heart of downtown Orlando (37 W Pine St, to be exact), to be followed by a brief east coast tour where the band intends to hit cities such as Baltimore, Brooklyn and Richmond, among others. The full slate of dates can be found at the band’s myspace page.
