Rashad Johnson rehydrating and stretching
Matt York / AP - Cardinals rookie, Rashad Johnson, re-hydrating while stretching

1. Rookie Development – How a team did in a certain draft isn’t usually reflected right away, as most players (and draft classes) take a couple of years to develop. However, if a team can get an immediate impact from a couple of draft picks, then halleluiah, jackpot. Everyone knows how big an impact Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Tim Hightower had on the Cardinals success last year and though this is the exception rather than the rule, this year’s set of rookies could definitely have that same kind of effect.  For a good look at this year’s draft class, check out my breakdown of the Cardinals eight fresh faces. Cardinals fans may have forgotten what good front-office decisions look like, but this is it…finally.

Pay specific attention to the progression of Chris “Beanie” Wells, the Cardinals number one draft choice. Can he play hard, day-in and day-out, remain injury free, and gain the respect of his teammates? If so, Wells could be starting the first game of the season. The Cardinals have very high expectations for him and would love to have as dynamic a duo (in Wells and Hightower) as the Carolina Panthers (DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart) and the Tennessee Titans (Chris Johnson and LenDale White). Couple this with the Cardinals ferocious passing game and you have a recipe for offensive domination.

“Beanie” has admittedly been hanging around Larry Fitzgerald during summer workouts, a good indication that he is being influenced by the right kind of player. Plus, Wells and Fitzgerald both wear glasses – which basically means, well, nothing…but here’s to hoping they end up having a lot more in common…like touchdowns.
