The American Pit bull, is it really born ready to attack man or beast? Are we as a society really ready to accept that a Pit bull is just born that way? How can we turn our heads and simply proclaim that this breed of dog is somehow born evil? We do because it is easier than opening our eyes and seeing what man "kind" has become. If we turn our heads and blame the breed we don't have to look inside and see what we have become. Michael Vick is only one of thousands that have participated in the fighting games. Vick, himself stated that on one occasion two police officers saw the dogs fighting and simply walked away.
It is not just in America that this cruelty is running ramped but all over the world. It is only sad because we profess as a nation to care about our animals yet we turn our heads and look the other way. Only when it is thrown in our faces do we decide to demand a change. Society has made an example of Michael Vick because he disappointed us. He was suppose to be a role model for our children to look up to and he failed. He operated his dog fighting in Virginia for approximately six years. It was not the money he won gambling that caused him to electrocute and drown the no longer worthy dogs, not with the millions he WAS making in football. Perhaps it's not his fault, maybe he was just born viscous.
The dogs were not born evil and the Michael Vick's of the world were not born viscous. Man taught them both at a very young age what was expected and accepted of them. As Vick punished the dogs for not performing so has society punished Vick for his performance. Michael Vick has agreed to work with the Human Society and give various speeches expressing his 18 month education of why it is "bad" to be mean to your pets. If he has figured it out or not really is not the question here, but will he be able to convince other to stop, is our higher hope.
