The summer has officially started and schools are out for the summer. But kids across Montgomery County and other locations in the Metropolitan D.C. area are plunging head first into their own stories.
The Montgomery County Public Library Summer Reading Program, for which kids can sign up at their local branch, has two new themes: "Be Creative" for kids and "Express Yourself" for teens.
After kids sign up, they receive their own reading activity log to record what books they've read, and even if they read one book, they can qualify for a Money Mailers Coupon sheet as long as it is completed by June 29. Between August 3 and August 22 kids reading one additional book qualify for a certificate and surprise gift. Kids are not only encouraged to keep reading all summer, but to be creative and attend special programs, ranging from puppet shows to Guitar Hero events.
Kids and their parents can follow activities at their library through Twitter, here. Check out this video about the "Be Creative" program:
Teens interested in the "Express Yourself" program also sign up at their local library, but will receive a gameboard to record their activities and books, a book recommendation form, and other goodies. Teens interested in submitting book recommendations can do so here. Activities for teens range from photography workshops to song writing.
