I met Sandy Fox and Lex Lang at a Community Eco-Dialogue at the Pasadena Central Library. They spoke with passion and commitment about the Earth's most precious and endangered resource; fresh water supply. Although 70% of the Earth is covered by water only 2% of our water is fresh water that can be used for drinking. At this time much of the Earth is suffering from chronic drought, from Australia to Africa to the Southwestern United States people are in danger of not getting enough clean water for drinking.

Unfortunately, traditional electrical energy generation is using 19% of our fresh water supplies, while oil drilling runoff causes water pollution, and traditional factory farming and agribusiness pesticide runoff contaminates the groundwater and aquifers that we depend upon for our drinking water supplies.

Sandy and Lex suggest that each person individually is responsible for water conservation, from taking shorter showers to reducing the amount of water used in outdoor watering, as well as the safe reuse of wastewater, storm water runoff and rainwater containment using catch water systems.

They developed the company H2Om Water with Intention in 2006, a bottled water company that takes full responsibility for the environmental imprint of their bottled water product. For example, as of January 2010, H2Om water will be bottled in 100% recycled PET 1 containers which are BPA and phlalate free, guaranteeing that no harmful hormone disruptors or chemicals will be leached into water they are bottling. They manufacture the bottles locally in Los Angeles which sets theirs apart from most plastic bottles which are manufactured and shipped from China. Their natural spring water purification systems utilize submicron filtration, UV light and ozone 3, and do not use the common procedure of “mixing” their water supply with local water which may contain fluoride, chlorine, agricultural runoff or other harmful chemicals.

Making sure that their company considers every aspect of their manufacturing process, they route their deliveries efficiently to save on fuel and emissions, and make sure that the company’s printed materials (including the labels on the water bottles) are made from environmentally friendly, recycled, postconsumer materials or tree-free paper, using only vegetable soy-based inks for printing.

H2Om’s mission is threefold; they supply clean, natural bottled spring water to consumers, inspire individuals to create daily positive thoughts and intentions by infusing their lives with positive thoughts, and align with other organizations who are involved in cleaning the water supply on a local and global level. They have partnered with Carbonfund.org to offset their company’s carbon footprint, using proceeds from their sales to create educational programs for bottle recycling and other environmental concerns.
