Can CNN be saved from itself?
Can CNN be saved?
The answer is, "sure!" Just rename it LNN.
Libertarian News Network.
That, more or less, is the position of Scott Jensen, a 45-year-old marketer and author of the 2003 white paper, "The P2P Revolution" (pdf).
His website, tersely entitled Rescue CNN, lays out what Jensen calls "My CNN Makeover," a 2,000-word manifesto.
The nation's inaugural cable news network is, he says, "an old fossil," languishing in third place. It needs a new direction and a new boss.
What it needs, according to Scott Jensen, is Scott Jensen.
Highlights of his CNN renovation program include:
- Making the news net overtly libertarian and focusing on libertarian news.
- Creating a prime time libertarian lineup with the likes of John Stossel, Drew Carey and Neal Boortz.
- Eliminate commercial breaks and turn the news crawl at the bottom of the screen into nonstop animated ad banners ala the internet. That way you get "All news. All the time" (and "All ads. All the time" too).
- Change CNN into a news boutique; more internet inspired innovations you'll have to read for yourself at Rescue CNN.
- Move CNN the hell out of Atlanta, just for the sake of shaking things up. This is applying the "shaker and mover" persona literally. On the other hand, he'll really shake things up by:
- "I would tie my salary to the ratings."
Now it's your turn. Jensen wants you to help shake, move and remake CNN into the Libertarian News Network by bugging the Chairman and CEO of CNN's parent company, Time Warner, by bombing him with your emails.
You can read more about that at Rescue CNN too.
