Teri Hatcher is training for her first triathlon at age 44! Hatcher, who stars on the hit ABC drama Desperate Housewives, has been training for the past month by riding her bike to work 3-4 times a week and running and swimming more.
"It's the least fun for me," she says of the 4-mile run that comes at the end of the race.
"By that point, I'm really tired, so the whole time I'm thinking, 'I'm not going to make it.'"
Hatcher will compete in the Nautica Malibu Triathlon Sept. 13 to raise money for the Children's Hospital in L.A. The event involves a 1/2 mile swim, an 18-mile bike ride and a 4-mile run.
Teri recently blogged about her training:
“I have single handedly taken my carbon footprint significantly down by riding my bike to work at least 3 times a week.
I’m running on my treadmill – so I’ve had to find room in my closet for the clothes that normally hang on it – and I’m swimming 50 to 80 laps in my pool.
For Hatcher, competing in the triathlon isn't about winning or losing. "I'm just out to do it and I did it," says Teri. "I did surprise myself that I'm in better shape than I thought I was."
The sixth season of Desperate Housewives airs Sept. 27 on ABC.
