A little over a month ago, I let you know about the upcoming Black Tape for a Blue Girl release 10 Neurotics. The retail street date is September 22, but copies are available for you right now at Projekt. To celebrate, Black Tape for a Blue Girl launched the album’s own Web site.

I was very lucky to receive an advanced copy of the CD and haven’t stopped listening to it since. I am really amazed at the honesty and openness of the lyrics. I love the sultry sound of “Inch Worm.” “Love Song” is fantastic and so is “I Strike You Down.” They all are, but these are my personal favorites. At least at the moment. Every song is so different, it's hard to compare them.

Many of you know that I am a fan of the stompy, but what it so awesome to me about this album are the stories. At first I tried to listen to it as more of a background music while I worked, thinking it would be more ambient. That didn’t work; I had to keep stopping because I would find myself drifting off and visualizing the people and the scenes that the songs depict. The music and the lyrics draw their portraits so clearly--it's not something I can put into words for you, it's something you must experience for yourself.

But it would just be rude of me not to give you a glimpse.

Imagine an absolutely stunning woman sitting alone in the middle of the night. Her partner is sleeping soundly nearby. She is naked and it is dark except for the flame of a white candle on the small table next to her. The only sound is that of his peaceful breathing, and she sits curled up in a chair, pen in hand . . .

Love song
Words & Music : Sam

I’m sittin’ here at three a.m. writing this love song as you sleep.
It seems to me you must have figured out this is ‘bout all you’ll get.
I enjoy your body, yes I do, you’re not asking for much in return. I take your sweat and sperm.

I’m useless, I’m pathetic, I’m afraid that’s it.
My mom said I’d never amount to much, she’s looking down and smiles.
The fighting will stop, I promise it’ll stop.

I look for signs of your betrayal, of your abandonment.
‘cause I’d rather blame you than blame my choices,
‘cause I’d rather lose with a loser, than lose with a winner,
I’d rather lose with you. Oh, wake up my love!

From the Facebook Black Tape for a Blue Girl Group page:

Our new album is 10 Neurotics—and it is really fantastic. I have an all new band including Brian Viglione (of the Dresden Dolls) on drums & bass, and vocalists Athan Maroulis (ex-Spahn Ranch), Laurie Reade (ex-Attrition), & Nicki Jaine. We received our copies of 10 Neurotics at Projekt last week, and I am so excited to see our year of hard work pay off with this spectacular release. I don't know if you heard, but I started playing acoustic guitar, and wrote most of the songs on it. The albums feels really refreshing and new to me, like when "The Rope" came out: something completely new for me, yet with similar mood. This is our 10th album, nice to feel vital 23 years into things.

I redesigned the blacktapeforabluegirl.com website, including posting a bunch of e. katie holm's wonderful images from our first show at the projektfest'96.

I appreciate your years of support. Now, more than ever, your purchase is truly felt. Artists survive off your love and support. Thank you to everyone for all the years of love,

Sam
