Today is the beginning of the North End's biggest and best feast, Saint Anthony's feast. This summer the streets of the North End have been filled with people paying homage to the various saints and this weekend is one of the last celebrations of the summer. The North End feast tradition has been going on for decades and always attracts numerous tourists as well as locals. Streets lined with food vendors and carnival games are a staple to the feasts along with parades to honor the saints.
This weekend is Saint Anthony's turn. For it's 90th anniversary the feast will be bigger and better than ever. Saint Anthony's feast has become the largest Italian Religious Festival in New England with over 100 pushcarts, music, entertainment, games and raffles. Opening ceremonies begin tonight at 7:00pm with a blessing of the Saint Anthony statue and a short procession. This year the 90th anniversary raffle is giving away great prizes like a 2009 Vespa, 50 inch flat screen TV, a day in the North End and 500 dollar cash prize.
The feast will set up shop on Endicott, Thacher and North Margin streets. It is not to be missed!
