4 Aspects of Tibetan Medicine
Tibetan doctors must help patients psychologically and spiritually in order to treat the root causes of disease. Medicinal methods include diagnostic skills in reading the tongue and urine; highly sensitized pulse touch; and truthful question/answer.
The methods, which also include prayers and mantras to energize medicine and activate its healing power, were derived from sacred texts and Buddha. Healing mantras are taken from the Atlas of Tibetan Medicine and mnemonically taught to pupils inducing a spiritual path for practitioner who by helping patients learn to practice compassion.
Quintessence Tantras of Tibetan Medicine by Dr. Barry Clark contains the first complete translation of the Root Tantra and Explanatory Tantra of Tibetan medicine. The Root Tantra and Explanatory Tantra of Tibetan medicine is the most thorough, detailed and systematic reference for Tibetan medicine in English containing the Tibetan views and defining characteristics of healthy and diseased bodies.
About it, the Dalai Lama says, "Dr. Barry Clark, presents clear and accurate translations of the Root and Explanatory Tantras, two works of such fundamental importance in the Tibetan medical system that they are commonly memorized by medical students."
