Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez, both Disney Channel stars in the shows Hannah Montana and Wizards of Waverly Place, respectively, are making headlines.

Selena Gomez has been celebrating her 17th birthday, which falls on July 22nd. And there is another reason she is in the news: the Disney Channel show she stars in, Wizards of Waverly Place, has been nominated for an Emmy as Outstanding Children's Program.

According to Press Association, the young actress talked about the moment she found out the show had been nominated saying, "I freaked out and I jumped up and down and I ran downstairs to tell my mom, and I said, 'Mom, we got nominated for an Emmy' - she was in her bed and I woke up my mom and my stepdad and I was freaking out and I don't remember what happened after that because I was too excited."

It was surely a very exciting moment for Selena Gomez, who is enjoying a lot of success for someone as young as she is.

Last week, a television crossover event combining the Disney Channel shows Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place and The Suite Life on Deck became the most watched scripted telecast on cable so far this year.
