According to an article that appeared on Joystiq, Bungie informed IGN UK at Comic-Con that "After Reach that's it for us." One has to wonder just how long they planned on milking the Halo franchise anyway. The original Halo: Combat Evolved was released in 2001 and since then Bungie has not released a non-Halo game.
"We're already working on a new IP that we can't talk about yet ... we've done a lot of different styles - first person to third person to RTS - so it could be anything," said Lars Bakken, a Bungie employee.
Aside from Halo, Bungie is also responsible for Myth and Marathon (which some people have claimed to be Halo under a different name) so it will be interesting to see what direction this new IP is heading.
This isn't the first time Bungie has claimed to be leaving the Halo series, however, as they also said Halo 3 would be the final Halo game before it's launch in 2007. Since then, three more Halo games have been released or announced. My guess is that we will continue to see new Halo games for years whether they be developed by Bungie or another studio.
