I have taken a tiny hop onto the green bandwagon.  I am at the "as long as I am not inconvenienced" and "as long as it saves me money" stage of going green.  I don't drive a Prius just yet.

I am interested in making homes more energy efficient.  Some of the common ways to save energy are to use your air conditioning less, seal up gaps in your home, use a ceiling fan, turn down the heat on your water heater, use fluorescent light bulbs instead of standard incandescent ones, add more insulation, and get dual paned windows.  I believe that most people have tried a few of these.

What you probably have not tried is actually producing your own electricity.  I was especially interested in this after I lost power for 10 days after a hurricane last fall.  I ran across a few websites that say you can build your own solar panels or wind turbines for $200 worth of materials.  It sounds kinda too good to be true, but I have provided the links in case you are interested.

Having solar panels professionally installed is cost prohibitive for me.  Building my own solar panels sounds like a fun family science project.  We can even turn it into a math lesson by analyzing our electricity bills to determine how much energy we are actually saving.
