Mike and Alexandra Shadroui are the North Carolina State Directors for the Christian Educators Association International an organization for Christian educators that I recently spotlighted.

Before becoming the North Carolina directors Mike and Alexandra were both members of CEAI.

Mike and Alexandra wrote me a nice letter outlining their involvement in CEAI and describing some of the things they like about being members.

Following is the full text of their letter:

“Dear Bob,

Thanks for your interest in the Christian Educators Association.

Alexandra and I learned about CEAI a number of years ago and joined.

The liability coverage is much less expensive than other groups and we didn't have to worry about our dues going to support political agendas or candidates, which we do not support. Our association with CEAI has been great.

Their magazine "Teachers of Vision" is inspiring and they have lots of great teacher resources on their website, including a pen pal project with Armenian students. For example, last year they had all the Thanksgiving proclamations of the Pilgrims and our great Presidents. Not only did my students really enjoy the proclamations they helped the children understand how much leaders like George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Teddy Roosevelt felt it essential to thank God for the blessings he had bestowed on America. The proclamations were presented in a manner in which they were easily usable in a public school as historical documents.

Alexandra used material from CEAI to explain the history of the National Day of Prayer to kids in her class who had asked her about it. That brief explanation led several boys to organize their own prayer service at the flagpole that drew half the student body to pray for our country and its leaders.

CEAI should appeal to any teacher, as they are thoughtful and restrained in their approach to issues surrounding religion in public schools.

This spring CEAI sponsored a booth at the NC character education conference, where we presented a session on character development in the classroom based on the lives of great Americans like George Washington, George Washington Carver, etc. As part of our presentation we dressed up as George and Martha Washington. We talked with attendees at our seminar as to how these great men and women relied on their Christian faith as essential to their own character.

The conference was a positive experience. The keynote speaker, Bryan Beattie, used a powerful quote from Mother Teresa to urge the audience to serve our school children in a Godly way. I felt very touched by the Holy Spirit throughout.

As the new state coordinators for CEAI we hope to build membership and create local chapters in our state. We would love to talk with any teacher, administrator, or church about CEAI.

Mike and Alexandra Shadroui"

If you have any questions about the organization in North Carolina, or their experience with CEAI, you can contact Michael and Alexandra Shadroui by email at mshadroui@ceai.org

In my last article I mentioned their exciting new math curriculum program  Racing with Math that CEAI memberTom Baughman developed and is using successfully in his elementary classroom.

In order to help you to get a better feel for this organization I have included the following YouTube video from CEAI that outlines the true facts behind the Christian roots of our nation.
