Julian Smith wowed the crowd this time. (ITV)

After three semi-final rounds, Thursday's performances may be the best ones overall of the entire competition. Not only did we have two of the best performances of the entire competition to this date, but we also saw general improvement across the board.

The current six acts already selected to appear in the final are:

Susan Boyle

Diversity

Flawless

Shaun Smith

Stavros Flatley

Shaheen Jafargholi

Who will join them this time around? Read on for some observations!

Sugarfree: B

As with every round to this point, a dance act came out and presented a pretty cool routine. As frustrating of a song as Britney's Spears "Circus" is to listen to, all-girl group Sugarfree actually came up with a pretty fun circus-themed routine. The quality was more or less there, but it actually felt a little bit overdone and lacking of some of that raw energy we would expect from a dance group before a live audience.

Fred Bowers: C

73-year old Fred Bowers is not very good at breakdancing; there's frankly no real nice way to put it. What he is, though, is remarkably entertaining. There's just something hilarious about a guy of his age attempting to act hip, and his act is worth watching just for pure comedy. The best part? Watching all of the "extra dancers" surrounding Bowers pretending to act like they were witnessing the greatest dance performance of all time.

Brit Chix: D+

This girl-rock group had without a doubt one of the worst performances of the evening, but you couldn't say they lacked every element of being a good band someday. They had a nice get-up reminiscent of the Spice Girls, and the fact that they performed "Wannabe" only worked to help them. The problem is just they lack the talent to compete with the true contenders, and were rightfully buzzed by the judges during their performance.

Julian Smith: A

Who's better than this saxophone-playing star? At this point, it may be hard to necessarily put anyone above him as a favorite in terms of pure talent. While "All By Myself" can occasionally sound mopey and depressing, he turned it into a beautiful piece of music. He still needs to show some variety with his song choice, but there's no denying that the guy is seriously good and has the style to boot.

Callum Francis: B+

12-year old Callum has, as accurately pointed out by Piers Morgan, quite possibly the cheekiest grin in the history of reality TV. Luckily, he can also put on a pretty great performance. His singing voice may not be spectacular, but his act, build entirely around "The Jungle Book," was fun, energetic, and likely a sign that this kid will someday have a pretty nice career.

Jackie Prescott and Tippy Toes: C-

It takes a ton of work to train a pet, especially to perform in front of a large group of people with so many distractions (the lights, the audience, etc.). In actuality, Jackie Prescott did a decent job getting her dog Tippy Toes to weave around between her feet to the sound of the music. It just wasn't that impressive to the audience, and lacked the kind of flair needed for an animal act to make it very far in the show.

2 Grand: A

I had no idea this grandfather / granddaughter act could be as good as they were during the semi-final. In spite of being a personal favorite of mine, they really didn't seem to be able to rise above a cutesy little act and a nice story of two generations coming together. Boy, was I wrong. This performance of "Somewhere Out There" was beautiful. Out of any of the acts so far in the competition, their improvement from the audition to the semi-final was the most substantial.

Fabia Cerra: C+

Fabia probably has more talent than most will be willing to give her credit for, but it it's difficult to truly refer to a striptease / dance act featuring blinking lines placed over specific body parts as a work of art. It's more or less a novelty act, but it is tough not to give credit to someone for being this comfortable in their own skin to do a performance like this in front of an audience.
