An Honest Lie is a yearly publication featuring fiction and art from "hometowns in Texas and surrounding worlds", they say on their website, viewable here:
They go on to say, "we are accepting submissions in the areas of fiction, stream of thought essays, well written misadventures from real life, and blatant lies that are fun and entertaining."
Full submission guidelines can be found at the website above. As always, be sure to check submission guidelines before you send your work.
In addition to the yearly anthology, An Honest Lie coordinates readings and other events. For writers, this is a valuable chance to network and self-promote, and An Honest Lie sweetens the deal by increasing the royalties authors are paid based on the sales of events they attend.
An Honest Lie is unique in that they do not print poetry. Their website says on the matter, "Poetry is a fickle little beasty, for when she is beautiful, she is amazing, and when she is ugly, she is far beyond sad. In other words, poetry is not the market we are trying to reach . . ." So what are they looking for? In their words, "Think quirky, or funny, but most definitely marketable and something memorable."
An Honest Lie is staffed by Publisher Debrin Case, of Open Heart Publishing (openheartpublishing.debrincase.com/), and Senior Editor M. E. Johnson.
Good things are expected from An Honest Lie- we look forward to their inaugural printing.
