Young writers who wish to improve their writing can do many things. One of the tips often given by teachers and authors is to read. Read books every day. Read books that are enjoyable. Read books that will expand their imagination and knowledge.
Today, I'd like to recommend and review a new children's book titled, HUMBERTO, THE BOOKWORM HAMSTER by Mayra Calvani. As you will see, little Humberto takes reading to the extreme, and is the perfect character to illustrate what children should and should not do when taking the advice to read.
Humberto is an imaginative little hamster who loves books. In fact, he would rather read than do anything else, including spend time with other animals who want to be his friend. When a flood ruins his most precious possessions, his books and his running wheel, Humberto is devastated and desperate to salvage as many books as he can. However, realizing that other animals have also lost as much as he has, he makes a choice to put friends above possessions and help others rather than rescue his books.
HUMBERTO, THE BOOKWORM HAMSTER, for readers 4 - 8 years old, is a wonderful book with a message about priorities and friendship. Children will not only learn about the importance of reading, but will also come to see that it's much more enjoyable when books are shared with friends. Kit Grady, the illustrator, enhances this lovely book with beautiful, colorful drawings of Humberto and his friends.
This is a book that children will want to read again and again. To purchase a copy, visit amazon.com
