Artie Lange was looking a lot less fat and sweaty than he has in a long time when TMZ caught him sucking down a cigarette on a Manhattan this Thursday afternoon. One of TMZ’s patently idiotic “reporters” grilled Artie Lange for comments on everything from David Carradine’s recent death and to Susan Boyle’s nervous breakdown.
After months of hearing about his new drug detox and weight loss plan on the Howard Stern radio show, Artie Lange’s TMZ interview gave fans a peek at how the comedian is looking after a rollercoaster of a year. Lange looked substantially healthier than he has since his admission that he was regularly using heroin back in 2007. After Artie began taking the prescription medication Subutex for his heroin withdrawals, he ballooned up to more than 300 pounds.
When the doltish voice from behind the TMZ camera asked him how much he had lost, Artie Lange responded: “I’ve lost about 400,000 in gambling and about 45 pounds of weight.” In what may or may not be good news for the beer-leaguered comedian, Artie Lange seems to have replaced his overeating addiction with chain-smoking addiction.
In a moment that exemplified Artie Lange’s constant struggle to be polite and gracious to obnoxious and desperate fans, Artie spent half of the TMZ interview dealing with a Kenneth-from-30-Rock-ish-hanger-on who first begged the Howard Stern Show co-host for a picture and then began pestering Lange for drug abuse recovery advice. Artie Lange handled the goon graciously and even directed a confused tourist towards Broadway in the middle of the interview, all while sucking down a Marlboro Light with a near-pornographic lust.

TMZ seems to be catching up with a lot of Howard Stern Show cast members these days. Their segment on Eric the Midget’s valet parking fiasco was the featured video during the credits of a recent episode. See the Eric the Midget TMZ interview here.
