Gary “Baba Booey” Dell’Abate is trying to look on the bright side. The baseball that brought national attention to the pitching (in)ability of the perpetually ridiculed producer of The Howard Stern Show is now up for auction to the highest bidder—and for a good cause. The baseball and Mets jersey worn by Baba Booey during his disastrous first (worst) pitch on May 9th at Citifield are now up for bids at the website Charitybuzz.com.
Despite weeks of practice and preparation and a consultation with a sports psychologist, Baba Booey threw out a pitch that has been described as everything from “really girly” to “totally incomprehensible” (and a few other names not fit for print). Since the May 9th debacle, Baba Booey has been brutally roasted by his Howard Stern Show co-hosts, fans and co-workers. The pitch also made dozens of sports highlights and blooper reels from across the country which engineers from the Howard Stern Show have spliced into seemingly endless clips of sportscasters and commentators hysterically laughing at Baba Booey’s demise. See Baba Booey's living nightmare here:
Ridiculing Baba Booey has been a staple of The Howard Stern Show for nearly 25 years. The errant pitch has now been added to Baba Booey’s list of mock-able characteristics which include his giant teeth, huge lips, propensity to get “bored” in Vegas, and inappropriate selection of barstools.
The money raised from the sale of Baba Booey’s baseball and Mets jersey will go to benefit LIFEbeat, an organization that promotes HIV prevention in youth.
The current bid for the Baba Blew-it items is up to more than $1500. The auction will be open until June 17, 2009 until 3:00PM (EDT). Check out the auction here.
