Gary “Baba Booey” Dell’Abate began as a producer for Howard Stern radio show at WNBC in 1984 and has been a part of the bizarre cast of characters that define the show ever since. Daily humiliation and ridiculing of Gary “Baba Booey” Dell’Abate for every small blunder he makes is one of the cornerstones that The Howard Stern Show is built on.
In 1989, when Dell’Abate was discussing his collection of valuable cartoon animation cels, he mispronounced the name of Quick Draw McGraw’s sidekick “Baba Looey” and called him “Baba Booey”. He was roasted relentlessly for the mistake in typical Howard Stern Show fashion. The misstep might have been forgotten quickly if Gary Dell‘Abate had not stated his belief that it would all blow over. Instead, twenty years later, he’s still Baba Booey. Howard Stern Show fans like Wack-Packer Captain Janks have brought greater attention to the name Baba Booey by prank calling local TV news and radio programs with fake reports, and then slipping in the phrase Baba Booey before being cut off by the censors.
In addition to roasting Baba Booey for his frequent poor word choice, his Howard Stern show co-hosts also ridicule him for his abnormally large teeth and lips. At times, Howard Stern has asked Baba Booey to wear a large beekeeper’s mask over his face when the show producer is standing next to porn stars so that he won’t diminish their beauty and sexuality.
Most recently, Baba Booey has become the subject of nationwide ridicule for a horrendous first pitch that he threw out a New York Mets game on May 9, 2009. Baba Booey, who is a huge fan of the Mets, practiced endlessly in preparation for the pitch and even spoke to a sports psychology for advice. See the wild pitch HERE:
