“Zombieland”
Zombie purists aren’t going to like “Zombieland” for the mere fact that the creatures can run, but for those who don’t care, this film looks like it’s going to be a good time. Woody Harrelson is back in another eccentric role and Bill Murray is making a cameo appearance as a zombie. Those two things alone should sell tickets, but it's also getting great reviews. The Hollywood Reporter has called it “A bloody, disgusting blast,” while many critics are comparing to the now classic zombie-comedy “Shaun of the Dead.” "Zombieland" is projected to dethrone two week champ “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” and take home the top spot this weekend.
“The Invention of Lying"
Ricky Gervais returns to the big screen this weekend in “The Invention of Lying.” Mark Bellison (Gervais) is an unimposing man living in world where everyone tells the truth all the time. One day he discovers lying and uses it to make all his dreams come true. Some critics are calling “The Invention of Lying” one of the falls funniest films, while others are saying it misses out on the chance to be a much more humorous effort. Jennifer Garner, Jonah Hill, Tina Fey, and Louis C.K. co-star.
“Whip It”
Drew Barrymore is making her directorial debut this weekend with the new coming-of-age comedy “Whip It.” Bliss (Ellen Page) is a typical teenager just trying to figure out where her life is going to go. When she discovers the underground world of roller derby competition she immediately falls in love with the sport and the lifestyle. Most critics are saying “Whip It” takes old conventions from similar films and makes them fresh again. It’s also garnering comparisons to “Juno” and “Bend It Like Beckham.”
“Capitalism: A Love Story”
For the most part critics are saying it’s par-for-the-course with Michael Moore’s latest, “Capitalism: A Love Story.” As in his other films, Moore goes out to prove a point and does so in the same fashion he established in his other documentaries. If you’re a fan of Moore, see it to praise him. If you’re not a fan of Moore, see it to come up with counterpoints to all his arguments.
“Toy Story 3D”
If you’ve never seen either of the “Toy Story” movies, you’re missing out on two of the most highly regarded animated films of all-time. Here’s your chance to see them both in 3D. Do it quickly though. They’re only going to be in theaters for two weeks.
