November 12 at 7:30 PM is the MTSU Jazz Artist Series and Bob Mintzer, the Grammy-winning saxophonist, recording artist, and composer Bob Mintzer. He will be playing with the MTSU Jazz Ensemble I. The event will take place in the Wright Music Building's Hinton Hall on the MTSU campus.
Mintzer is a member of the Grammy-winning band, Yellowjackets, and has recorded 21 CDs with them. They have been nominated for four Grammy trophies and were awarded a Grammy for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Recording in 2009 with "Homage to Count Basie on the DMP label. In 34 years of his career, he was also a freelance musician in New York City and has created more than 200 big-band arrangements.
The MTSU Jazz Ensemble has the most experienced student players and concentrates on the more competent literature and master works from the bid-band repertoire. Because of this, they are the best large ensemble in the jazz studies program.
We are thrilled to have Bob Mintzer at MTSU as an artist in residence. His compositions are as fun to play as they are to listen to and his artistry as a jazz saxophonist has been at the forefront of the music for over 20 years." -- Don Aliquo (coordinator of jazz studies at MTSU)
To attend the event, tickets are just $15 a person and available at the door. However, it is free for MTSU students, faculty, and staff with a valid ID.
