While showing up early means your choice of band shirts, it also means standing around for two or three hours before something good hits the stage. The Deathfest put its stock in the late afternoon and evening heavy-hitters, which meant that the first half of the day was populated by tepid local openers that simply made it harder to have a conversation. Being an opening band is a thankless job, but tolerating a boring opening band is even more thankless for everyone else.
