Lindsey said, “This next song started off as an ensemble, then became a guitar and voice piece. Look at the lyric of the song, it describes who I was, but is now just an echo of what it used to be. The power and importance of change,” and plays Big Love.
Fleetwood Mac next plays Landslide, and then Never Going Back Again.
Stevie then introduced the next song with a mention that in rehearsal they decided to do a song they have never performed in concert before. “This is a song for stormy people, in stormy relationships, with deep, dark, stormy problems. We like to call it I have Always Been a Storm.” Stevie had changed to a burgundy outfit at some point.
At 9:41pm, without having taken a break except to talk, the band performed Say You Love Me to a purple and blue gradient color on the screens behind them.
By the time the band played Gold Dust Woman, Stevie had changed into a gold colored shawl over a black outfit. The screens showed yellow flakes falling like gold dust. Stevie held some notes forever, belting out “dragon” for several bars straight. The screen showed what looked like a starry sky over the stage.
The band showed they were just warming up because they broke into a serious version of Oh Well with killer drums and guitar potently reaching out to the audience and making everyone dance around. They then performed perhaps their most powerful song, I’m So Afraid, with one of the most amazing guitar solos ever performed on a stage; Lindsey Buckingham is an underrated guitarist. He walked across the stage with a confidence that shows several decades of experience refining the guitar solo of this passionate song.
The crowd cheered for minutes after the song, and Lindsey knew he had done an awesome solo; he walked around the stage beaming and looking proud.
At 10:05, the band played Stand Back, with Stevie giving a first-rate performance. Purple lights shined on the stage and she spun around. The crowd danced with her, some spinning like she did. Blue lit up the stage during the nice guitar ditties. The song ends with a reprise of the guitar part performed by the backing guitarist.
Mick Fleetwood keeps performing with no breaks yet, as the band moved right in to Go Your Own Way, with red screens over the stage as Stevie came out with a top hat and a long black outfit. Red and yellow lights washed over the band as the guitar went into the first short solo, but the sound engineers did not have it loud enough to hear. Fortunately, they cranked the guitar volume for the longer and more important solo, which Lindsey again performed with aplomb. At the end of the song, he was leaning towards the audience letting them reach up and touch his guitar strings while he fingered the frets.
At 10:18 the band took their first break, which lasted only three minutes.
They returned to the stage with I Need Your Love So Bad, which led into another unique Mick Fleetwood drum solo, during which he talked to the audience. “Hey you out there! Are you with me? I said, are you with me! Stay with me!”
The band then performed World Turning, and then Mick introduced everyone on the stage. This included Lori Nicks, Sharon Celani, and one other on backing vocals; Neil Haywood on guitars (lead and rhythm) and vocals, and Brett Tuttle on keyboard, guitar, and vocals.
“It is a joy and honor to share the guitar and vocals,” Mick continued, “of our mentor in the studio, our maestro on the stage, the man with the magic fingers, Lindsey Buckingham.” He then introduced, “The Lady of Fleetwood Mac, our poet, the first lady, Miss Stephanie Nicks.” Motioning to the bassist, “On my right, as always, the backbone of Fleetwood Mac, John McVie.”
They then played Don’t Stop with a red and white light theme that blended into yellow and green, then white and blue.
The band took another three-minute break, and then Lindsey and Stevie came out holding hands, and put their arms around each other. Stevie was wearing a black outfit with gold designs on it. They played Silver Springs at 10:44, Stevie sounded marvelous, and Lindsey had so much passion as he played with her.
After the show, Lindsey said, “Los Angeles! You guys were a pure pleasure. We want to thank you all for coming and we will see you next time.” Stevie added, “You are a rocking great audience, thank you!” Mick said, “We have about 1,000 family and friends at this special night. Take care of yourselves, be kind to one another, and remember … the Mac is Back!”
