Anatomy of a Meta Warlock spec
One of the more interesting 51-point talents, Metamorphosis is at the apex of the Demonology tree. While Affliction warlocks are juggling DoTs and Destruction warlocks are spamming Chaos Bolt, what is the typical Demonology warlock up to?
The Meta/Ruin spec, 0/56/15, is but one example of talent points wisely spent in the Demonology tree. Follow along with the sample linked here while we explore some of the individual choices made and what could conceivably be substituted.
Minion-Buffing
- Fel Synergy, keeps your Felguard's health topped off
- Fel Vitality increases his stamina and intellect
- His damage is boosted by Unholy Power, Master Demonologist, and Demonic Empowerment
- Improved Demonic Taticss boosts his chance to critically strike
Warlock-Buffing
- Demonic Embrace, more stamina equals more health, which is then Life Tap'd into more mana
- Demonic Aegis increases your Fel Amor for additional spellpower, scaled by Spirit
- Molten Core means that your two of your DoTs and your Shadow Bolt can proc a buff to your fire spells
- Demonic Knowledge feeds off of Fel Vitality to provide even more spell damage for you
- Metamorphosis, with its cool down reduced by Nemesis, contributes a great deal of dps
Destruction Tree Investments
- Improved Shadow Bolt adds an additional chance to crit on that target
- Bane makes it easier to fit Shadow Bolts in between refreshing DoTs and Meta
- Ruin makes those Shadow Bolt crits cause double the damage of a normal strike
The Felguard is, of course, the Demonology Warlock's minion of choice. There are several glyphs that will enhance this spec, namely the Glyph of Felguard, Glyph of Metamorphosis, and if you find yourself spamming Searing Pains while in melee range, you might consider glyphing that ability, as well.
