The crew of a Southwest Airlines flight ejected a mother and her 2-year-old son from a flight leaving from San Jose on Monday. Although it is unusual for something like this to happen, Marilee McInnis, a spokesperson for Southwest Airline, said that flight crews can use their own discretion in situations such as this.
According to a report on MSNBC.com, the toddler, Adam, prior to take off was screaming things like, "'Go! Plane! Go!'" and "'I want Daddy!'" Adam's mother, Pamela Root, said she thought the boy would calm down once the plane took off, but she wasn't afforded the chance to find out.
The plane went back to the gate where mother and child were escorted off.
The 38-year-old mother is asking for an apology from Southwest and she wants to compensated for the portable crib and diapers she said she had to buy by being forced to spend the night away from home.
MSNBC has a poll up asking readers if they agree with the flight crew's decision to eject mother and child from the flight. At the time of publishing this article 7,488 had participated in the poll. Of those, 81.9% said they agreed.
