NC church to burn Bibles and more for Halloween

The news has been spreading of a Canton, North Carolina, church that plans to host a book burning for Halloween this year. Among the books to be burned are Bibles; only the King James version is safe. According to an Associated Press report, the pastor of the church said that all other Bible version "are 'satanic' and 'perversions' of God's word."

According to a report on The Raw Story, the Amazing Grace Baptist Church Web site, which is now down, says that the Bible supports book burnings. The site reportedly cites Acts 19:18-20 to justify the event. It says, "'And many that believed, came and confessed and shewed their deeds. Many of them also which used curious arts, brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.'"

In addition to burning Bibles, Pastor Marc Grizzard and his 14 member congregation will be adding books by religious writers such as Billy Graham, Jimmy Swaggart, Rick Warren, Mother Teresa, and the Pope to the pyre. All of the people are "heretics" in the eyes of Grizzard and his followers.

The group will also be burning music from several genres which it considers to be "Satan's music."

this is why i really never did embrace this. you say that your religion(meaning type i.e. baptist, catholic, etc.) is right and every other type is wrong, so this must mean that "heaven" is lowly populated. Why cant people make up their minds? I have an idea, why don't we have a fight to the death, and the winning church goes to "heaven" and any surviving losers are tossed into a coliseum of lions and gladiators, and the radicals are crucified.

this man is truly not in his right state of mind. God would never want someone to do this, this not violates God's word, but also the constitution. I only pray this man and his mislead congregation can see the error of their ways in time to stop this madness.

They're taking it WAY too far. It makes me very angry what Grizzard is doing. Heresy is sometimes a little bit of truth that is taken TOO FAR. In the passage from Acts, the new believers were burning books which were used specifically for divination, sorcery, stuff like that. I too went overboard in a charismatic church with such a practice. It has taken years to replace my music collection. God's law only commands us to LOVE, not to become weird like Grizzard's fanatics.

Can anyone say "wack a doodle?" This type of church gives God a bad name, they use any excuse to create hate and sow discord. The pastor should be out on his broomstick riding around for his favorite holiday, Halloween!

HE'S RIGHT! These other versions are watered down and some even remove homosexuality as a SIN. I applaud this man for his stand because it is a STRAIGHT AND NARROW Way. You BROAD PEOPLE are heading for destruction because you accept every form of doctrine and you don't try the Spirit of truth against the spirit of error to see which one is of the Lord. Too many ENTERTAINERS have folk running around the church like FOOLS and they don't have enough power to live right yet they are speaking in TONGUES?!! GIVE ME A BREAK. I am happy for the few, the proud and the GODLY! JESUS was called a DEMON for His stand also. So we are right on track to be hated by the world and fake Christians who have no relationship with Christ. Some of you would allow a striptease in your pulpits! becuse you are too WEAK to stand up for Godly truth!

It is only a short step from public book burnings to toasty witches on a stick.

It is truly infuriating when a congregation makes headlines in this way. We are called to serve as God's missionaries by exhibiting to the world our LOVE as Christians. We must love all, and try not to judge. Headlines like these do nothing to further Jesus's message. It only gives non-believers more ammunition to argue against faith, church, and God. AND we are called to be good stewards. This inludes protecting our home - Earth. So, call me silly, but I must admit I was all the more angry to see that the books are being "burned" instead of recycled. Just my opinion though...

no ones going to change the world through a comment. People are always going to believe what they believe. So why waste breathe. This may not think he's crazy, but just because its something he doesn't believe in mean he should leave it where he lies. Look at what he proved. Nothing. Quit trying to change peoples minds.
