The t-shirt says, "Get out, be active, live well."  This is the goal of Open Air Big Bear----an effort to encourage Big Bear residents and visitors to fully enjoy the benefits of an active lifestyle.

The Big Bear Community Rides are a great way to get started.  Dust off the old bike and bring it down to the parking lot at Moonridge and Big Bear Blvd, behind Goldsmith's Boardhouse Saturday morning.  Arrive by 9:00 am and a bike mechanic from one of the local bicycle shops can help with basic repairs and tire inflation.

At 10:00 am, participate in a short group ride.  Several options are available, from an easy, flat ride around Eagle Point, to an intermediate ride through Moonridge with several hill climbs.

During the past two weeks, participants have included beginning riders, as well as professional mountain cyclists, ages 7 to 82.  Between 40 and 60 riders have joined in each weekend.

The next ride is scheduled for Saturday, May 15.  Everyone is encouraged attend.  Beginning riders are particularly invited.  The Community Rides are a great way to get started, keep motivated, and catch the enthusiasm of more seasoned riders.

Rentals are available from several local bicycle shops for riders who don't (yet) have a bicycle.  Contact Bear Valley Bikes, Chains Required Bike Shop, or Big Bear Bikes for rates and information.

Future rides are planned by the Big Bear Trails Association.  More information will be available after the Amgen Tour of California bicycle race visits Big Bear on Friday, May 21.

Join in the fun, get fit, and get outside at the next Big Bear Community Ride

The Community Rides have been AMAZING! It's so great to see children riding along beside their grandparents having a great time. Come out to the last ride! It's sure to be a blast, and dont forget about the after party at Sonora Cantina!
