MONTCLAIR – At a very young age, her mother brought her a drawing table and this Venezuela native never stopped creating and designing since. "My mother was a big influence on my life," she says.
"She let me be creative and let me express myself through art," said artist Isa Kollgaard, who was amongst 160 exhibitors from all over North America that participated in the 12th annual Fall Fine Art and Craft Show held at Brookdale Park in Montclair from October 17 through 18. The juried show featured artists, photographers and crafters showcasing their handcrafted works.
Kollgaard creates unique collections of hand painted artworks at her home studio in Nazareth, Pa.
After having a successful career as a graphic designer in Venezuela working for Hilton Venezuela and Metro de Caracas, Kollgaard moved to the U.S. and continued honing her skills at the Parsons School of Design in New York. She worked as a graphic designer in Atlanta and was an art director at the Nova Southeastern University in South Florida.
The artist discovered an outlet for her passion when she quit her job to take care of her children. "When I was pregnant, I painted a canvas with a beautiful scene for my baby's nursery. Slowly, I started to paint some more pieces for babies' rooms."
The idea for her business was born. Kollgaard started a home-based business that creates murals and paintings for children's rooms.
“I am very blessed to be able to have the support of my husband, who’s helping me achieve my professional goals,” she said.
Kollgaard specializes in a blending of soft and vibrant acrylics for various styles of paintings and murals. Her artwork can be found in children's boutiques and online stores. Her murals are in boutiques, homes and nurseries across Lehigh Valley and Central New Jersey.
“The Montclair art show,” she added, “was a great opportunity to spread the word about my murals.”
She said that she treasures everything she does for a living. ”It’s a special feeling creating beautiful art for children’s rooms,” she added.
