Diesel lessens our dependency on foreign oil: EPA research findings show that if one out of three light duty vehicles in the U.S. were powered by diesel, it would equate to a savings of 1.4 million barrels of oil a day. Clean diesel emits approximately 25% less greenhouse gas emissions than traditional gasoline. Leading third-party certifier, AMCI, tested the Jetta TDI and found it performed 24 percent better in real world conditions, achieving 38 mpg in the City and 44 mpg on the Highway.
