Cipriani Wall Street was the place to be last night (11/30/09). Nothing seemed independent about the first ceremony of Awards Season. A-Listers were everywhere. While Meryl Streep did not walk the carpet, she was in attendance. Academy Award nominee Shohreh Aghdashloo came out to show support for the Independent Film Project. She is promoting her film "The Stoning of Soraya M." Alec Baldwin, who just announced that he will quit acting after his contract with "30 Rock"expires, walked the carpet.
Academy Award Winner Ellen Burstyn was ecstatic about being a juror on the "Gotham Panel." Patricia Clarkson, Willem Dafoe, Melanie Diaz all attended the show. The cast of the new Coen Brothers film "A Serious Man" were in full force.They were nominated for best ensemble cast! Amy Landecker, Sari Lennick, Fred Melamed and Richard Kind all raved about working with the Coen Brothers.
"Amreeka," which was written and directed by Cherian Dabis was nominated for best picture. Amreeka was a must see. Stanley Tucci and Kristen Wiig were also mingling on the red carpet!
The woman of the evening was Natalie Portman, who is promoting her new film "Brothers." She walked the carpet with Director Jim Sheridan. Natalie looked stunning.
