Do you have prescription drugs in your cabinets and drawers that date back years and years? Not sure what to do with them? The Parker Police Department will be collecting potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs for destruction.

Saturday, Sept. 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as part of a nationwide “Take-Back” campaign.

Parker Police Department
19600 E. Parker Square Dr
Parker, CO 80134

The service is free and anonymous.

"This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Many Americans are not aware that medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are increasing at alarming rates, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, many Americans do not know how to properly dispose of their unused medicine, often flushing them down the toilet or throwing them away – both potential safety and health hazards."  Information obtained from the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, go to www.dea.gov.

For more information about Parker’s drop off location, please call Officer Dawn Cashman at 303.841.9800.

Good to know Parker police are on the calendar to take back drugs on National Prescription Take Back Day. I need to check into who is participating in this day here in northern California.

Why can't people do what the military has us do, flush it down the toilet?

That's great Parker Police Dept will participate in National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. I never knew what to do with all the expired drugs and it is bad to just throw into the garbage or flush down the toilet. I hope they will be able to find a safe way to destroy the drugs.
