It’s a concert that lots of people are looking forward to, and many won’t even be in the audience.
This Friday night, when Randy Travis is playing music at the Fraze, there will be families all over the Miami Valley that will benefit, because proceeds from the concert, the 12th annual Celebrity Concert for Charity, will benefit local Cystic Fybrosis research and CF families in the Dayton area through Children’s Medical Center of Dayton.
And of course, while there will be a number of those folks at the Fraze, many others will not, some because they will be diagnosed with CF later this year.
As far as we as a society have come in dealing with disease, when there is a gathering like this, it reminds us that we still have a long way to go; and how fortunate the country is that there are people who are able to devote their lives to finding cures, and making life better for those affected.
This concert is part of what makes it possible for those with Cystic Fybrosis. Tons of volunteers, not only at the concert, but before the concert, and at Children’s Medical Center of Dayton work day after day to make it all work.
You may recall last week we talked about how the opening act for this show was determined. (Here’s a link, in case you missed it, including the video of the top three at Fricker’s.)
There was a series of three karaoke contests, and the winner of each one got a pair of tickets to this show, and the chance to be onstage for the finals that occur before Travis takes the stage.
Travis is working extra hard to squeeze this event into his tour schedule, as his next stop is in Canada.
From the Fraze about the show…
After career sales reaching 25 million and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Grammy award-winning legend Randy Travis continues to do what he loves most--sing and make music.
Whether it is a catchy country anthem like "Told You So," or inspirational radio hit like "Three Wooden Crosses," Randy continues to stay true to his humble country roots with sincere songs that could work for a Saturday-night jukebox or a Sunday-morning church service.
As an artist whose life-affirming songs celebrate the joy in everyday details, Randy has become known as a man who exhibits unassuming honesty.
Few artists can boast the kind of lasting, unparalleled career that Randy can with such humbleness and grace.
After bringing the entire country music industry back to a place of credibility and authenticity in the late 1980's, Randy continues to deliver #1 radio singles and accumulate musical accolades nearly thirty years later. Randy's hits include "Deeper Than the Holler," "Forever and Ever, Amen," "I Told You So," "It's Just a Matter of Time," "If I Didn't Have You," "Hard Rock Bottom of Your Heart" and "Spirit of a Boy, Wisdom of a Man."
Lawn & terrace seats are still available at $26 each, and the show starts at 7:30, which means the gates open at 6pm.
