Join the Paramount Theater on Sunday, April 25, 2010 at 3:00 PM for the Virginia premiere of The Perfect Game to benefit the Carson Raymond Foundation and the UVA Children’s Hospital. The film, based on a true and inspiring story, follows the adventures of a group of rag-tag, shoeless, poor kids from Monterrey, Mexico who shocked the world by winning 13 games in a row and the 1957 Little League World Series in the only perfect game ever pitched in the Championship.
The team, led by their priest and a down-and-out former major leaguer, embarks on a journey throughout the southern US and eventually to Williamsport, PA for the Championship game. They encounter many adversities along the way, including threats of deportation and the bigotry that wouldn’t allow them into certain restaurants or travel on certain buses. They never lose their faith, however, and eventually capture the hearts of both nations. View the trailer below.
All proceeds from the film will equally benefit UVA’s Children’s hospital Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and the Carson Raymond Foundation. The Carson Raymond Foundation is dedicated to honoring the life of Steven “Carson” Raymond, who in his nine years delighted in the simple pleasures of playing sports with his school friends and teammates. To that end, the Carson Raymond Foundation seeks to provide elementary aged children, regardless of sex, race, religion, or economic ability, with opportunities to participate in neighborhood sports programs. With the cooperation of individuals and community partners, the Carson Raymond Foundation will build fields, provide equipment, instruction and transportation to allow school children to “GO PLAY” in their own neighborhood.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for youth. To purchase tickets, call or visit the box office located at 215 East Main Street, Charlottesville, VA 22902, 434-979-1333, or visit the website.
